The question is always posed to me by inspectors and prospective inspectors who visit the 3D Inspection Software portion of my site: “So which package do I really need?”
- BUNDLE #3 is designed to fit the needs of the inspector that is trying to slowly merge into this profession and the budget is the primary concern. This allows you to be computerized and put on a completely professional look to your reports and correspondence. After making some money you can easily upgrade your system later.
- BUNDLE #2 is for the inspector who is committed to making a full time go of inspecting yet does not yet see the benefit of the Enhanced Office Management and the importance of the client and agent database. But don’t worry because you can always upgrade to the Premier version at a later date.
- BUNDLE #1 offers you the greatest savings and will include everything that you will need. This is meant for the inspector who wants the full feature sets that 3D has to offer. I recommend this to all inspectors, but I understand the reluctance to make the additional $200 investment over Bundle #2. The Enhanced Office Management will increase your productivity as you develope your marketing strategies and correspondence.
In years past, 3D was much more ala carte and more decisions needed to be made. The biggest option was the Pocket PC module. About two years ago 3D made the decision to include the Pocket 3D module in each major package. The Pocket PC has become so popular as an inspection tool that we feel that all of you will want to give it a try. But please remember that you will need a handheld that runs the Pocket PC operating system and not the Palm system.
ONSITE CHECKLISTS - I recommend that you rule out immediately the thought of using a checklist on site and then returning back home to fill in the report on your computer. This is a complete and utter waste of your valuable time. Returning home to fully relive the inspection might be fine for the first 10 computerized inspection reports but you have much better things to do with your time.
SUBSCRIPTION PLAN - 3D’s subscription plan is the best $99 per year investment you will make in your inspection enterprise. The first year is included with Bundles #1 & #2. With 3D’s regular updates and improvements you will want to stay up to date with the latest features. 3D is an evolutionary software that is steadily being improved and refined.
POCKET 3D REPORT WRITER
WILL I REALLY NEED THE POCKET REPORT WRITER? I use it on almost every inspection. The technology is convenient and perfect to capture the majority of your inspection data. The hardware has also dropped to the point where the most inexpensive Dell Axim’s run the software perfectly. At about $250 you can get a Pocket PC that will greatly improve your productivity on site..... I think that you will love the little machines as much as I do.
WHICH POCKET PC DO I USE? I use a now discontinued HP iPaq 3715 that features a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera. The camera works well on the indoors and lousy on the indoors. While on the roof I can easily snap the photo of the chimney and quickly import it into the report with just 3 more clicks.
IS THE POCKET PC FOR EVERYBODY? No.... But I do believe that it is for most of you. If you have poor eyesight and cannot focus on a smaller Pocket PC then you need to consider a laptop or a pen driven Fujitsu ultra portable laptop running Windows. If you can view the smaller Pocket PC screen then I encourage you to try these little machines out.
IS THE POCKET PC TECHNOLOGY TOO NEW & EXPERIMENTAL? My first Pocket PC 3D inspection was in 1999 and operated on the Windows CE platform. That was a lot of years ago and while totally experimental then, 3D has perfected the newer Pocket PC platform and created a wonderful inspection tool in the process. And while other software firms are still trying to catch up, 3D was the first to create a power software to fulfill our inspection needs.
