Throughout the western states a popular roofing choice is tile. Monier Lifetile is one of the largest roofing tile manufacturers and they have a very informative website found at www.monierlifetile.com. As an inspector I love their site because it helps me find the detailed installation information that I need. On their site, Monier Lifetile shares the installation specs from the Tile Roofing Institute.
Tile roofing is a good choice when it is installed correctly. The tile manufacturers have joined together and the Tile Roofing Institute was formed to develope consistent installation standards to help the installer and protect the consumer. The sad part is that we are finding a good deal of the tile roofs to be installed contrary to these installation standards. This is bringing with it lots of water damage in the walls and framing below due to the poor installations.
The guide that has been produced by the Tile Roofing Institute is called “Concrete and Clay Roof Tile Design Criteria Installation Manual for Moderate Climate Regions. This manual can be found at: http://www.monierlifetile.com/pdfs/RTI%20Manual%20902.pdf
