MATT
NAME: Matt

NUMBER: 11

POSITION: Pitcher, 3rd Base

YEARS PLAYING: 9 Years Experience

PREVIOUS TEAMS: D-backs, Red Sox, Braves, Braves, Orem City teams

FAVORITE MLB TEAM: NY Yankees. I like Derek Jeter and think he is awesome. He's not a huge guy, but he can hit the ball and hit it in clutch situations. I also like their jersey (pin stripes) and logo.

FAVORITE MLB PLAYER: Derek Jeter

GREATEST MOMENT IN BASEBALL: I got hit in the head with a baseball (not wearing helmet) one time in a game and then struck out the next several batters.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT IN BASEBALL: I pitched the ball and it hit the top of the back stop.

UPDATE: 5/17/2007 - Matt created a new embarrassing moment as he spewed in our dugout before the game. Here is how Coach Leavitt recounted the event...

MATT SPEWS... AND SPEWS... AND SPEWS - This game will long be remembered for Matt’s ability to spew throughout our dugout. Tuna fish and pickles will never quite look so appealing again. I was certain that it was pineapple, but in a flushed facial sweat, Matt assured me that it was pickles. Needless to say, Matt did not start at third base. Instead, he was laid down onto the soft summer grass and left to rest it off. Whether it was just a dose of bad food or the stress of his older sister weighing hard upon him we, do not know. He was able to come into the game to bat and even play an inning of infield. I am glad that we weren’t needing him on the mound and that we could hide the fact that he wasn’t at 100%. He was relieved later in the game when big Matt showed up and let Bubba know that all was going to be well at home. I find it amazing just how resilient these boys are as they try to juggle the pressures of home, family, school, scouts, and then of course, baseball. Way-To Spew-Matt!

How has playing baseball made you a better person? Learned teamwork and to help my siblings to play baseball.

What is the most challenging part about playing baseball? Beating the umpires (in a poorly called game)

What is the best thing a coach has either ever told you or said about you? That I have a great pitching arm.

What other information would you like to share about yourself? I love to play Nintendo (Wii Sports is the latest obsession) and all sorts of Nintendo systems and Gameboy's. I like cross country skiing (going down steep slopes) and playing in the snow. I like to play air hockey. My favorite Christmas show is "The Santa Clause". Favorite food is steak.

FAVORITE QUOTE OR SAYINGS: "Son of a nutcracker!" - Elf

No matter how good you are, you're going to lose one-third of your games.  No matter how bad you are you're going to win one-third of your games.  It's the other third that makes the difference.  ~Tommy Lasorda
