Rockford Deck Collapse Injures 8

Source: WorldNow, WTVO channel 17, TV News coverage

June 30, 2003 - Updated 10:04 am - Rockford Rockford Deck Collapse Injures 8 A late night gathering took a dangerous twist. A deck on a Rockford apartment collapsed sending eight people to the hospital.

Eleven people were on the deck when the tenant says they heard a crack. The deck collapsed and the people on it fell to the ground.

People who weren't injured pulled the deck off the ones who were trapped underneath.

"When the deck fell, it gave away from the back, it kicked out like this and the back part which is now over there, fell on to everybody's feet and everybody landed on their backs on the cement." says Adam Moore, tenant. "Me and my buddy pretty much picked the deck off everybody's legs. They were screaming and hurting."

The injuries range from sprained ankles and sore necks to broken bones and open wounds.

Hampton Properties says the tenant exceeded the number of people allowed on the deck. They also say nothing like this has ever happened before at Hampton Meadows and they plan on inspecting the decks.
