Deck Collapses At Napa Party; At Least 11 Injured
NAPA -- A deck collapse during a surprise birthday party in Napa sent 11 people to the hospital and injured numerous others Saturday night, the Napa Police Department reported Sunday morning.
The incident took place at 7:36 p.m. at a multi-story, split level, single-family dwelling in the 1100 block of Stoneybrook Drive, according to police. Napa firefighters had to rescue several people with minor to serious injuries who fell ten feet into a basement area.
Emergency personnel initially estimated that 40 people were injured in the collapse. The ages of the injured ranged from 20 to 75 years old, police reported.
A total of six ambulances transported eleven people to either Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa or St. Helena Hospital in Deer Park, according to police.
Four of the patients were reported to be in serious condition while seven others received minor injuries. Several more partygoers sought their own medical attention.
In addition to Napa fire and police, Napa County Fire, California Department of Forestry, California Highway Patrol responded to the disaster.
